ARNAUD LE TEXIER - Ingredients

01 - Ingredients Original

The original has a merciful and slow build up which you're always moving to. I love the seductive and sexy bassline.

A bonus is the remix done by Jonas Kopp. What a colossal track that is.

Tell me, which one do you like more?

SHIFTED - SSS Podcast #32

by Rodney Smith: by Rodney Smith

Shifted showing you what it means to play a two hour set. His mixing skills are so fluent. The entire set feels like an experience, it's not just a collection of tracks. There aren't many DJ's that can make their set feel like an experience. You see a lot of people claiming it to be, but it often doesn't hold up. Shifted builds up his set like it's the Great Wall of China, but he also holds the Wall together with phenomenal techno.

ROD live at Boiler Room

This Boiler Room set is already one of my favorites. Don't you just want to dance when you see ROD play those tracks like a crazy wizard? He soothes you into it with sexy snares and gentle basslines. His third track (Oni Ayhun-OAR 004A) completely takes over with its mental atmosphere, psychotic gun shots and loud bangs. In order for someone to understand and appreciate the beauty of music like Ayhun's track you have to be mad or genius. I'm pretty sure ROD is both. You should be pretty sure as well after watching the video.

RECONDITE - EC10

Recondite created a tense atmosphere with those clangs. What goes on in the background feels like ebbing and flowing of the tide.

Recondite also made some deep house tracks not too long ago but I'm delighted he's not exploring that aspect of electronic music anymore. Stick to murky and dark techno Recondite. Murky and dark techno.

JON HOPKINS - How I Live Now

I know this is something completely different from the last couple of posts I made, but I cant help it when it comes to Hopkins.

Absolutely stunning.

LUCY - Beautiful People

Three years old but still a very powerful track. "Beautiful People" reminds me of a ticking time bomb. Estimated time of destruction 4:48 mins.

MR JONES - Apogeum (Tim Wolff remix)

Excellent remix by Tim Wolff.

There's so much energy and percussion in this track. I love how percussion can give an extra dimension to tracks like these.

TRIPEO Live at Trouw, Amsterdam 21.09.13

Tripeo is Darko Esser's alter ego. It's a different form of techno and it's quite something. Everything about this liveset is amazing, the build up, the tracks and the setting Tripeo tries to create. I love listening to livesets, they're always a little different.

Tripeo will release a new EP on October 7th which contains class A mind boggling techno. You can find the previews and the liveset below.

MAX COOPER - Sea Of Sound (ambient rework)

Max Cooper reworked "Sea Of Sound" and the results are amazing.

COYU at Pacha Ibiza 26.07.13

I'm picky about house, especially about house sets. I don't want to listen to the DJ that played at 30 festivals last summer, I want to listen to something new. Something like Coyu. I've never heard of him before but he warms up the Pacha before Derrick Carter and DJ Sneak, which are both house legends so I think this set is worth a listen or two.

JOEL MULL - Invite's Podcast 132

Joel Mull with a two hour long podcast.

I had the honour of seeing Joel Mull live for three hours in Berlin about one month ago which was an amazing experience. Mull has a very interesting taste in techno, which you'll hear in this recording. His atmospheric sound, energetic percussions and rolling basslines all blend in nicely for this set. You're gonna love his ending, it's something different for a change.

DALE HOWARD

cut

Can't believe I only just found out about Dale Howard, can't get enough of his sound. You can compare his style with De Sluwe Vos. Both have excellent house tracks with godlike grooves, always focussed on moving people forward. I really like Howard's no nonsense house grooves. I even made a selection of Howard's toughest tracks for you, ending the list with a one hour set.

FLOORPLAN - Chord Principle

Robert Hood a.k.a. Floorplan released a killer album in July called Paradise and "Chord Principle" is one of my favorite tracks from the album.

"Chord Principle" is a tense 4AM banger that sounds fresh and maybe even slightly cheerful because of the giggling girl vocal.

NICK WARREN - Devil's Elbow (Max Cooper remix)

The master himself, Max Cooper, shared his thoughts with us on this production: "I went pretty minimal on this one, no hi-hats, and pretty much no drums actually, just a kick and much later into the track a snare comes in. There was something about the simple repetitive 2-note melody hits and chords I landed on that just seemed to work without needing anything much else, well hopefully it works for other people too and not just me. It's been going down really well in the clubs at least, it seems to make people clap for some reason, maybe because it's so simple and kick focused rhythmically, it's got a bit of a marching stomp feel."

DONATO DOZZY - Vaporware 07

Donato Dozzy's second appearance on Muziekbeer and this one might sound unexpected. Nothing dark this time around, instead Dozzy remixed an album called Bee Mask filled with extremely deep and skillfully crafted electronic ambient.

All the tracks on Plays Bee Mask are remixed from the original album Bee Mask from Chris Madak. The original plan was that Dozzy would only remix one track, but he ended up doing the entire album. Huge fan of the cover, nice, fruity and colorful for a change.

"Vaporware 07" is amazing and pressed in blue vinyl. All these hypnotic loops are constantly shifting yet they never make a sudden movement that might disrupt the atmosphere. One of the finest electronic albums released in 2013.

JUSTIN JAY - Static

Definitely didn't see that crazy groove coming, almost got blown off my feet because of all the static.

MAX COOPER live at We Love Space, Ibiza

.

Finally a new liveset from Max Cooper, a liveset with "Walls". Which is still one of the finest tracks I've heard this year, hence it being my first blogpost.

His set from Awakenings festival this year was the most recent one I listened to and Max slightly dissapointed me. I expected to hear "Walls" but instead you get a track with a broken beat (around 30:00 min.) and an emotional piano solo when I wanted something extreme, like "Walls". I was really curious as to see where Max fits that track into his sets and how it sounds in a liveset.

Which one do you favor?

APPLESCAL & RYAN DAVIS - Creatures

Ryan Davis and Applescal had one idea, a spontaneous session and recorded various versions of what they had in mind. Out of that unplanned session came a three track EP. They wanted others to catch up with the idea and create their own "Creature", so they organized a remix competition. The winner of this remix "Creature" competition will be released on Ryan Davis' label and gets a pretty cool analog synthesizer.  If you're interested, you can participate here. Ofcourse I've already looked at some of the remixes for you, and posted my favorites below. The rework done by Warmth is a perfect ten in my opinion.

Ryan Davis' quote sums up the track perfectly: "The summer is in its last days but we don't want it to leave. With this release we wanna stay with the light sunny days for a while and dream on in the warm season of the year." The track is filled with atmosphere but it never completely takes over control of the track. Except during the break, where the groove gets a little aggressive. I love how the way they reshape the groove over and over again, yet it never sounds out of their control. Ryan Davis and Applescal are kick ass producers.
