RECONDITE - EC10

Recondite created a tense atmosphere with those clangs. What goes on in the background feels like ebbing and flowing of the tide.

Recondite also made some deep house tracks not too long ago but I'm delighted he's not exploring that aspect of electronic music anymore. Stick to murky and dark techno Recondite. Murky and dark techno.

JON HOPKINS - How I Live Now

I know this is something completely different from the last couple of posts I made, but I cant help it when it comes to Hopkins.

Absolutely stunning.

LUCY - Beautiful People

Three years old but still a very powerful track. "Beautiful People" reminds me of a ticking time bomb. Estimated time of destruction 4:48 mins.

MR JONES - Apogeum (Tim Wolff remix)

Excellent remix by Tim Wolff.

There's so much energy and percussion in this track. I love how percussion can give an extra dimension to tracks like these.

TRIPEO Live at Trouw, Amsterdam 21.09.13

Tripeo is Darko Esser's alter ego. It's a different form of techno and it's quite something. Everything about this liveset is amazing, the build up, the tracks and the setting Tripeo tries to create. I love listening to livesets, they're always a little different.

Tripeo will release a new EP on October 7th which contains class A mind boggling techno. You can find the previews and the liveset below.

MAX COOPER - Sea Of Sound (ambient rework)

Max Cooper reworked "Sea Of Sound" and the results are amazing.

COYU at Pacha Ibiza 26.07.13

I'm picky about house, especially about house sets. I don't want to listen to the DJ that played at 30 festivals last summer, I want to listen to something new. Something like Coyu. I've never heard of him before but he warms up the Pacha before Derrick Carter and DJ Sneak, which are both house legends so I think this set is worth a listen or two.

DIXON - Essential mix 14.09.13

Dixon with one hell of a mix. So many beautiful tracks that haven't seen a release date yet. Lucky for us, Dixon gave us a complete track list which you can find below the Soundcloud.

Now all I have to do is wait for a couple of months until they're released.

JOEL MULL - Invite's Podcast 132

Joel Mull with a two hour long podcast.

I had the honour of seeing Joel Mull live for three hours in Berlin about one month ago which was an amazing experience. Mull has a very interesting taste in techno, which you'll hear in this recording. His atmospheric sound, energetic percussions and rolling basslines all blend in nicely for this set. You're gonna love his ending, it's something different for a change.

DALE HOWARD

cut

Can't believe I only just found out about Dale Howard, can't get enough of his sound. You can compare his style with De Sluwe Vos. Both have excellent house tracks with godlike grooves, always focussed on moving people forward. I really like Howard's no nonsense house grooves. I even made a selection of Howard's toughest tracks for you, ending the list with a one hour set.

FLOORPLAN - Chord Principle

Robert Hood a.k.a. Floorplan released a killer album in July called Paradise and "Chord Principle" is one of my favorite tracks from the album.

"Chord Principle" is a tense 4AM banger that sounds fresh and maybe even slightly cheerful because of the giggling girl vocal.

14 september 2013

NICK WARREN - Devil's Elbow (Max Cooper remix)

The master himself, Max Cooper, shared his thoughts with us on this production: "I went pretty minimal on this one, no hi-hats, and pretty much no drums actually, just a kick and much later into the track a snare comes in. There was something about the simple repetitive 2-note melody hits and chords I landed on that just seemed to work without needing anything much else, well hopefully it works for other people too and not just me. It's been going down really well in the clubs at least, it seems to make people clap for some reason, maybe because it's so simple and kick focused rhythmically, it's got a bit of a marching stomp feel."

DONATO DOZZY - Vaporware 07

Donato Dozzy's second appearance on Muziekbeer and this one might sound unexpected. Nothing dark this time around, instead Dozzy remixed an album called Bee Mask filled with extremely deep and skillfully crafted electronic ambient.

All the tracks on Plays Bee Mask are remixed from the original album Bee Mask from Chris Madak. The original plan was that Dozzy would only remix one track, but he ended up doing the entire album. Huge fan of the cover, nice, fruity and colorful for a change.

"Vaporware 07" is amazing and pressed in blue vinyl. All these hypnotic loops are constantly shifting yet they never make a sudden movement that might disrupt the atmosphere. One of the finest electronic albums released in 2013.

JUSTIN JAY - Static

Definitely didn't see that crazy groove coming, almost got blown off my feet because of all the static.

MAX COOPER live at We Love Space, Ibiza

.

Finally a new liveset from Max Cooper, a liveset with "Walls". Which is still one of the finest tracks I've heard this year, hence it being my first blogpost.

His set from Awakenings festival this year was the most recent one I listened to and Max slightly dissapointed me. I expected to hear "Walls" but instead you get a track with a broken beat (around 30:00 min.) and an emotional piano solo when I wanted something extreme, like "Walls". I was really curious as to see where Max fits that track into his sets and how it sounds in a liveset.

Which one do you favor?

APPLESCAL & RYAN DAVIS - Creatures

Ryan Davis and Applescal had one idea, a spontaneous session and recorded various versions of what they had in mind. Out of that unplanned session came a three track EP. They wanted others to catch up with the idea and create their own "Creature", so they organized a remix competition. The winner of this remix "Creature" competition will be released on Ryan Davis' label and gets a pretty cool analog synthesizer.  If you're interested, you can participate here. Ofcourse I've already looked at some of the remixes for you, and posted my favorites below. The rework done by Warmth is a perfect ten in my opinion.

Ryan Davis' quote sums up the track perfectly: "The summer is in its last days but we don't want it to leave. With this release we wanna stay with the light sunny days for a while and dream on in the warm season of the year." The track is filled with atmosphere but it never completely takes over control of the track. Except during the break, where the groove gets a little aggressive. I love how the way they reshape the groove over and over again, yet it never sounds out of their control. Ryan Davis and Applescal are kick ass producers.

AGORIA - Scala

Cool track by Agoria, soon to be released on Innervisions (09.09.13). Don't you just love that piano riff? All the pieces of the track just seem to come together.

6 september 2013

JORIS VOORN - Ringo

Amazing track from Joris Voorn. Currently number one in the Beatport charts and for a good reason.

Such a wonderful rhythm.

DARKO ESSER at Solar Festival 04.08.13

A recording of Darko Esser at Solar festival this year. His playtime was 12:30-14:00 which is quite early for techno. Lucky for us, Darko starts off a little slower and deeper then you're used to.

MOHN - Ebertplatz 2020

A place in Ireland where every two years on June 10-18 the stars line up with this place. Its called heavens trail.

I'm a huge fan of ambient tracks like "Ebertplatz 2020". It's dripping with atmosphere and the landscape Mohn tried to create in this track is fascinating.

Not something you can listen to everyday but it's certainly interesting to say the least, especially the Youtube video.

RIPPERTON FT. HEMLOCK SMITH - I Don't Know

Ripperton always succeeds in giving you that pure and wonderful feeling after listening to his music. "I Don't Know" is a little more emotional than wonderful though because of the story the vocal is trying to tell. Nevertheless, this track is beautiful and one of my all time favorites.

DOWNTOWN PARTY NETWORK - Space Me Out (Mario Basanov remix)

Another incredible remix by Mario Basanov. I'm not sure whether there's any DJ currently releasing more beautiful tracks then he is. They just keep on coming.

23 augustus 2013

RYAN CROSSON - Under The Willow

.

Be careful you don't drown.

Immensely deep track.

BOSS AXIS Live at Bergwacht 21.06.13

.

Oh boy have I been waiting for this. The way these guys build their sets is amazing. Boss Axis' last set on De Muziekbeer is from 2011. You can find it here. Almost two years after that, Bergwacht uploades new one that's the same length and maybe even better then its predecessor. After almost two and a half hours you'll wish you were there, and so do I.

JAMES WELSH - The Way

.

Some genuine deep house for all your mellow evenings.

Don't you love that sexy vocal?

YERAY HERRERA - Get Back (Erik Christiansen remix)

Guy Bourdin.

The rhythm of the claps in this track is funky as hell and that wild and groovy bassline just makes you want to dance.

BUTCH - LSD-25

Legendary.

The guitar is sampled from Funkadelic's "Maggot Brain" released in 1971.

George Clinton, under influence of LSD, told Eddie Hazel (the guitarist) during the recording session to imagine he had been told his mother was dead, but then learned that it was not true. The result was this 10-minute face-melting guitar solo.

The entire song was recorded in one take.

TORO Y MOI - Still Sound (Voodoo Bear remix)

Bill Bass

Found this gem in my music library. It's been sitting there for about two years, just waiting to get another play.

I just love how this track evolves, slowly building on that soothing vibe.

MARIO BASANOV - Red Line

red line

Incredible atmosphere in this well paced and dark track. Basanov is such a great producer. He created a huge landscape in "Red Line". Don't really like the vocals, but then again, they're mysterious and so is the entire track.

19 augustus 2013

GISBERTO - Miammi Glamm

Andrew Gallo

This is what you should call: DJ talent.

The track takes its time before it finally reveals itself (9:52 min.) and there's so much weirdness going on that you might feel a bit lost sometimes.

But "Miammi Glamm" has an intriguing sound and a track with that length isn't really called a track. It's more like an adventure that lasts for 10 minutes.

A truly amazing release from Cinematique back in 2011.

18 augustus 2013

BONAR BRADBERRY - 3two5 (Mario Basanov remix)

Have you ever heard a song with such a fascinating and unique groove like this? It's very wavy and radiant.

Basanov's grooves are from another planet.

VAAL & TALE OF US - Concor (live version)

This track has been driving me crazy since Tale Of Us dropped it in the Boiler Room. That was almost four months ago. Finally some unknown hero got his hands on a live version of "Concor" and uploaded it on Youtube for us to enjoy.

What a weird, mysterious and huge track this is. Certainly destroys any dance floor it gets played on.

MATHEW HERBERT - It's Only (DJ Koze remix)

Deep, dark, groovy and with a distinctive, almost poetic, vocal.

DJ Koze gives a new meaning to the word 'groove' with this remix.

HOLDEN - Blackpool Late Eighties

If you haven't yet listened to Holden's latest solo album The Inheritors, you should give it a listen. Many people will agree with me that it's one of the best albums of 2013. I wrote a review on the album in Dutch, which you can check out here if you're interested.

"Blackpool Late Eighties" intensifies by the minute, all these synths hypnotize you over and over again. The loop sounds so simple yet it grooves on for almost nine minutes and never seems to bore me. One of the many masterpieces on The Inheritors..
Fun fact of the day: Holden made this track in a hotel room completely off his tits from smoking weed.

This is the only Soundcloud version there is and it's played at slightly higher beats per minute then the original. You might like it more, but I think it's slightly less hypnotizing then the Youtube version.

HENRIK SCHWARZ - Walk Music (instruments live version)

What a magical introduction this track has, must be dazzling to hear it live.

The instruments, that vibe and Henrik's magical touch.

13 augustus 2013

JOHNNY MIKES ft. MICHAEL B - Darkness Everyday

Same lyrics as "Ain't No Sunshine" from Bill Withers, but that's about it. Luckily nothing else is copied, the vocals are even sang by somebody else.

Make sure to turn up the volume, because that rolling bassline is the sunshine of this track.

FORMAT B & PLEASUREKRAFT FT. CHRIS THE VOICE - Coltrane

Killer party house track with a stomping bassline and such a wicked groove.

I absolutely love those crazy trumpets.

MARLON HOFFSTADT & DANSSON - Shake That

Tough house with one of the most catchy house vocals I have recently heard. I've been yelling: "I'm on ma way to the liquor sto" for days now.

When Heidi played this track last week in Berlin everyone started to groove and bounce like crazy. Some female DJs are just so cool.

1 augustus 2013

VINCENT LEIJEN - Rosette

Excellent photo evoking the spirit of the game. Victoria Ivanova

Never heard of Vincent Leijen before but this is one sweet dreamy melodic house track.

MIND AGAINST - Atlant

awe.

What a huge track by Mind Against. It reminds me of "Gotham" by Ten Walls and some of Tale of Us' tracks.

Absolutely incredible.

Would kill to hear this live.

JON HOPKINS - Light Through The Veins

gorg

Jon Hopkins never ceases to amaze me. He has such a wonderful and fascinating sound.

"Light Through The Veins" is a nine minute beauty.

NINETOES - Finder

Gotta love the Carribean vibes coming from this one.

Summer all the way.

TRENTEMØLLER - Take Me Into Your Skin

The six year old "Take Me Into Your Skin" still sounds fresh and with its almost eight minutes it's far from boring.

Especially the ending.

The Trentemøller hype is long gone and his new tracks are not special at all. But his old ones are great, they sound so far ahead of its time.

3 CHANNELS - I Can Understand

A nice and chill deep house track with a great piano riff alongside it.

HENRIK SCHWARZ - Sky

.

Henrik Schwarz with another beauty.

He has so many great tracks but I rarely listen to them. That's because I just keep playing them until they bore me.

And tracks like "Sky" get alot of plays before they bore me.

30 juli 2013

RYAN CROSSON & TALE OF US - Angel

.

Such a perfect deep house track.
The peaceful atmosphere and the way this track builds is just amazing.

It has 128 BPM which is a bit high for regular deep house, but this isn't regular deep house. This is Ryan Crosson & Tale Of Us at its best.
